table re-do

Spring is here and its time to clean the porch, clean the furniture, plant flowers and my FAV.... paint!!

Last spring I did NOTHING, I didn't have the money to buy new chairs, cushions, flowers, etc...  My porch looked so sad and I missed watering all my flowers daily.  Well not a lot has changed, still don't have  the extra money to spend on it BUT I decided I wasn't going to spend another summer looking at my sad porch....SO....................I got me some .97 spray paint and went to town!

I bought this table years ago at Big Lots, I think I only paid a couple of dollars for it.  I was getting ready to take it to the dump and thought why not try to save it!

yeah I had started painting the top before I thought to take a before pic!  I normally buy spray paint for wicker, wood, plastic, etc..BUT it is almost 4.00 a can now and I think that is too high.  So I bought this and paid .97.

I did have to do two coats but I usually end up doing that with the expensive paint as well...

I think it looks much better!  Still needs a little something to Seesa it up though.....

I had picked these up at Walmart a few days ago...under 3.00 and I had a feeling I would use them for something...

Our Last name fit PERFECT on the table!

Not bad huh?  I think it will look better once I get it on my porch and put some of my one of a kind touches on it!  lol

As for now...well I am spending the day pressure washing my porch, I can't wait to get started..Nothing better than a nice clean porch to eat Easter Dinner on!

I did manage to get most of the stuff off of the porch already....(see below)  and NO this isn't a yard sale!  I have spent most afternoons this week washing everything.. I have to get started though b'c right now my yard is looking a little redneck!

Well thats the definition that Wikipedia gives...  As for my definition, Moss- the best "filler"ever!  I love this stuff.

I also re-did a book shelve today....It turned out AWESOME, that will be a post for another day though...

Next time your at Walmart pick you up a bag of Moss and go crazy with it like I did!

Fireplace re-do..

I would like to start off by saying whoever invented Spring Cleaning needs to be smacked!!
with that said...now i can continue.

I got up at 6am with ONE thing on my mind.....My Mantel!  As much as I love fires in the Winter time i am really ready for warm weather..which means time for cleaning out months of ash and suet.  :(
I had seen a show on HGTV where a gal had painted the inside of her fireplace, I was thinking..hmmm, can't be THAT hard??  Well.......3 pots of coffee and 10hrs later I did it!  Granted the "actual" cleaning and painting of the fireplace only took about an hour..My ability to NOT stop until I am 100% satisfied took 8hrs!
When you see something on TV they just always make it seem so easy to do...Well you know, I am sure they have "handymen" to bring them all the supplies they will need..Me on the other hand....my "handyman" was fishing! (smart choice)

Yes I know its a mess...and I am aware of the Shop Vac in the middle of my living room!

While I was vacuuming all the ashes out I couldn't help but sing "its a dirty job but someone has to do it"  You know from the show Dirty Jobs? 

I had seen a show with Paula Deen (yes, her mouth is too loud) but anyway...she had a Fern in the middle of her fireplace and I LOVED how it looked.  My fireplace isn't that deep so I knew a Fern would be way too big and too much trouble to water daily (Leah- ferns must be watered daily)...

I decided to try a Vine instead....pretty happy with the way it turned out.

I could kick myself for not taking a before pic of this...the bricks were a gray'ish color and very dirty looking.. Found me some Black Spray Paint for high heat and went to town!

I did manage to take a picture of the Mantel before.....(keep in mind it has been through THREE winters so thats a lot of fires!!

This stool is at least 25yrs old, I can remember me and sissy fighting over who got to sit on it!





Before you say anything..I know I HATE fake flowers but this didn't scream FAKE to me, I thought it looked VINTAGE!

I am super excited about my "find" today....Yes its Sunday and I realize that there isn't any Yard Sales going on today so I decided to go to Kirklands...be still my heart.

I just thought this was the coolest thing EVER!  It has 3 clips (Elijah, Kelsi and James??)  Its like it was made for me!  Too bad Elijah doesn't bring home art from school :(   He is just getting too big I suppose.

I always put the kids art on my fridge but I have NO room left on it so I had to do something...

Some might think this is a little MUCH....but not me, I wouldn't take anything for some of the stuff the kids have made over the years.

So I have to relate this to being thrifty somehow in order for it to be Blog Worthy...

Can you believe it???  I only paid 3.97 for it!  That's cheaper than Goodwill prices!

A Vintage Memory~

How many of you have ever sit in your Granny's kitchen and got a perm?

I don't know what in the world made me think of this today...But I remember back in the Good Ole Days we would all go to Grannys on Monday night and take turns getting our perms.  Aunt Sandra always came prepared....She brought all her perm rods, combs and perms. 

There would be 10 of us sitting around all us kids would be playing (outside so the grown ups could hear jeopardy) those that wasn't watching TV was in the kitchen playing Scrabble and usually two would be swinging on the porch swing..

I just wonder how many families still do this?  I am sure not many (myself included).  Its too easy now..just go somewhere and pay someone to do it, But be sure to take your cell phone in case someone needs you..

I can't imagine any of our family having cell phones back then.  I mean if someone needed you and you wasn't at home chances are you'd be at Grannys!  I can remember it like yesterday, anytime someone would call Grannys, Mom would always answer the phone and I could hear her say "well, who is your mother"?? and she'd holler for one of my aunts. 

I am sure that I am not the only one that has stories like this, surly you all have some?

I am thankful for my childhood and remember the "little" things the most.  Its funny how that works...
I hope one day when our kids are older they will have some VINTAGE memories.

Mom and Granny Lemons 2010

No thrifting for me...

Well.....I woke up Saturday morning went outside had my coffee on the porch and enjoyed the nice warm morning, after spending a few minutes on craigslist (writing down all the local yard sales) I called my MIL and was ready to get the day started.....
I took a shower and it hit me............UGH, I was sick as a dog...My legs cramped so bad and I had a fever, this can't be...it's still the opening weekend for yard sales, how could this be happening to me??  I am a good person, I don't deserve this!
So back on the Pj's went and I hit the couch...and when I say I hit the couch...LITERALLY, I was on my couch till 6am this morning..
I prayed it wasn't the flu, I do not have time for the flu, the flu just doesn't fit into my schedule this week!  I mean I am not sure if there is a certain time one prefers to be sick but this week it just couldn't happen..TOO much going on!!
I got up this morning and was feeling much better, my fever had broke sometime during the night and my legs was feeling better, I hope it was just a 24hr bug of some sort. 
I was really sad about missing the flea mkts, yard sales, etc...BUT I am very thankful to be feeling better today.
I think me and hubby are going on some type of "date" today...maybe I will find a Goodwill on the way...

Tonight I was in the mood.....for????  Yes, you guessed it, ORGANIZING!

I really get tired of digging through all this junk to find a color I like. After a recent "used" purchase I couldn't wait to get started.

I was pretty sure that a lot of it would be dried up or I would be tired of it.....well......I couldn't part with any of them!  So sad I know.  I did find this one and thought I would share it.



This was my first RED polish I ever bought!!



Why would I still have it?  LOL, who knows!  I figure its probably 10yrs old so why throw it out now?

After going through it all I decided just to keep them but organize them better...  I think it turned out pretty good.

So with that said, the moral of my story is:   Thrifting isn't always a bad thing, I look at is as it has made me get more organized in life....
